Entry #24

2013 Fashion Design Challenge
Entry #24

From Sock Monkey

web links:

It all started with a sock monkey who needed a Halloween costume. After making him a costume, I branched out to create custom outfits for American Girl dolls. I use my sewing, quilting and designing background to create one-of-a-kind creations for any sized doll - or monkey.

Task #1 - Outfit Design

Plaid & Pleats
I am currently fascinated by the variety of pleated skirts. I just finished a custom order doll sized kilt in royal steward plaid and decided to create outfit #1for the fashion design challenge around a plaid pleated skirt. I made a rough sketch and started looking into the materials that I had on hand. I use the motto - to reduce, reuse and recycle - utilizing materials that are given a second chance to be useful as custom doll creations. I found an old pair of plaid pants and a knit top that are color coordinated.

My original sketch was for a crop sleeved top, but changed that to short sleeved when I decided to add a long wrap around scarf and a beret type hat with a decorative flower.

Once I had the design in mind, I started with the skirt. . .
