2013 Fashion Design Challenge
Entry #7
From One Girl's Dream
DESIGN #1 - "FTF" (First to Find)
Outfit Design
My inspiration for my first entry comes from my love of the sport of geocaching. Geocaching is like a global treasure hunt in which you use a hand held GPS to locate hidden "caches." When you find one, you sign the log book and log your find on www.geocaching.com. Check out their website if you want to learn more! Geocachers love to be the first one to find a new cache, which is why I've entitled this outfit "FTF" (First to Find).
I do a lot of geocaching in our Georgia state parks. My design is based on the GA State Park mascot, Scout.
My doll Sophie will be ready for a day of caching in a pair of lightweight cotton cargo shorts (complete with working pockets). Her white cotton knit tee has a geocaching iron-on logo to show the world how much she loves the sport! Layering is important in case of a weather change, so she has a dark green sweatshirt hoodie. White cotton slouch socks, made from a pair of women's socks, will keep her feet comfortable in her hiking boots. Completing her ensemble is the all-important backpack, in which she will carry her GPS, camera, water, and other necessary items, and a hand-whittled walking stick. I used patterns from Liberty Jane, 123 Mulberry Street, and Sew Urban.
Outfit in Process of Being Created
Ready to begin!
I modified the shorts pattern slightly to make them shorter, since the original pattern was for boy's shorts.

I made the socks from a pair of ladies' socks.
I couldn't find any sweatshirt fabric in the shade of green that I wanted, so I bought a sweatshirt and cut it up for the fabric.
I chose a cotton fabric for the backpack that, to me, had a 'distressed' look, because a worn backpack tells a story of many, many adventures!
